Appearance: Standing approximately 5’8” and weighing 132 lbs, Austria has dark brown hair that he keeps pushed away from his face. There is a small cowlick on one side of his head, representing the town of Mariazell and he always wears glasses. His clothing consists of a long navy blue coat with a jabot, dark slacks and dark leather shoes.

Personality: Austria is an aristocrat, elegant and refined, with a taste for the finer things in life. He enjoys gourmet food, the opera, and classical music, preferably of Austrian origin, though German will do in a pinch. He can be stern when he thinks those who are supposed to be doing a job are not doing it, and does not like being made to wait. He is, however quite likely to neglect his own work to practice his own hobbies. But whenever he does something, he always makes sure to do a good job, preferring to take longer to accomplish something and do it perfectly than to do something quickly and do a shoddy job at it. He has a long fuse, trying his best to be polite and preferring to cross verbal swords with someone than actual ones. He tends to be quiet unless angered and likes things to be orderly and for people to follow the rules, oftentimes becoming annoyed with them when they do not unless it is for a very good reason.
He often seems aloof to all but those he considers good friends, staying within the bounds of polite behavior whenever he can. However the better he knows someone the more he will feel able to relax around them, but he feels has to trust someone before he will do this. This is perhaps because he is not terribly good at expressing emotions other than anger and annoyance, and even then he is more adept at expressing himself through music than actually speaking with someone. He is not given to public displays of affection, considering such things inappropriate, even when the person involved is someone he does care about. He in fact tends to become highly embarrassed and flustered over such things.
He has horrible direction sense, and is highly likely to get lost in any area he is not very familiar with, though he will rarely admit to this, or most faults even, outright denying them when diversions don't work. He has a pronounced sweet tooth, enjoying most desserts, but cakes are a particular favorite of his, followed closely by strudels and homemade chocolate. He is frugal about almost everything, preferring to wear clothes until they can no longer be discretely repaired before buying new ones and eating leftovers when he does not have guests. He does have some things he willingly splurges on that are not to keep up appearances, these things being his music, cake, and Hungary. He can have a hard time saying no to someone if he really cares about and loves them, which is perhaps one of the reasons he has such a hard time saying no to his former wife. Not that he would ever admit it.
Despite a personality that can seem cold at times he is certainly capable of loving someone, even if he often isn't too sure what to do about it when it happens, as falling in love with someone is a rare and truthfully uncomfortable thing for him. Despite how much music deals with the subject, he has never quite gotten a good grasp of the emotion, despite having been married at least twice before to both genders. He tends to insist that these were strictly political arrangements and that he was largely just fond of his “spouse” as that does make for a more pleasant marriage of course.
He dislikes violence and has never been a very combative person, preferring to avoid wars and fights in general and in fact is quite likely to be beaten if it comes down to physical confrontation, hence his preference for treaties and discussions. He is officially neutral as of 1955, though he will occasionally send a few troops as part of larger peace-keeping missions sent by the UN, though he insists that these are mostly for appearance sake.


Sexuality: Bi-sexual with a preference for women. He most certainly does prefer women, as evidenced by his close relationship with Hungary, but given his previous marriages and his close relations with many of the other European nations (the motto of his ruling house for many years was “Others make war, you happy Austria, marry”) it is safe to assume some attraction to men. However, he has never been very comfortable with the idea, being largely Catholic and repressed about sex anyway. Sex and who you have sex with is the business of no one but those that are engaged in the act at hand in his opinion. It is a private business, he has no desire to really speak about it or hear about how others are doing it. In this way he manages to be in the closet regarding pretty much anything, not just the fact that he likes men.

As mentioned before, Austria defaults to an almost prudish behavior. He’s a romantic, and if left to his own devices he doesn’t tend to be very creative in the bedroom. He makes up for this by being a perfectionist and as attentive to his partner’s needs as anyone could ask for. That having been said, he is not very adventurous, but due to his partners in the past he has tried some things, and with a bit of prodding he can be easily encouraged to try more.

Skills and Powers:
Powers: National Anthropomophic Personification: While Austria looks like a normal human, he is in fact the personification of... well Austria. This means that he “ages” very slowly, having stopped aging some time in the early 1600s. While it is possible for a country to reach a physical appearance of approximately 40 or so, he looks perpetually in his mid 20s and will presumably do so until his country is no more. His health is also tied to the economic and social welfare of his country, which means right now he’s getting over one heck of a headcold.

Skills: Austria has been alive for over one thousand years, and as such has picked up and honed a number of skills over the years. He is highly skilled at both piano and violin, having played the instruments practically since they were invented. He can also play the harp and the harpsichord quite well, and the flute to a lesser degree of skill. He can fence, but for the most part this is not used as anything other than a sport. He is rather good at cooking and baking, but makes an unholy mess and a racket that can sometimes be mistaken for a full scale battle by those who aren’t used to it.

Items: Other than the clothes on his back, there isn’t very much Austria carries on him all the time. There is his cross necklace, his glasses, a pocketwatch with “Republik Österreich” engraved in a flowing script on the inside lid, and not very much else. If he could arrive with his violin he would be quite grateful though.

Plans: I think it will be an interesting place for Austria simply because it involves him dealing with being open about sex and sexuality and all of those things that he doesn’t ever discuss. He will most likely want to keep it that way for as long as possible, but I have hopes that he’ll be able to loosen up. Just a little bit though. He’ll also probably want to open some kind of music store. Or maybe just offer private lessons that everyone can misunderstand because he can’t phrase things correctly to save his life.
